The talks include Indian artist Subodh Gupta, in conversation with Elaine Ng, Shirazeh Houshiary, in conversation with Michelle Yun and artists from various countries will have talks on subjects like ‘Art and Conflict’, ‘The Complexities of Text in Art’, ‘Queerness in Art – a Discussion with the Players’, ‘In the Public Eye: The Art of Creative Activism,’ Myths and Histories in Contemporary Practices.
Projects presents a series of six thought-provoking, large scale installations situated throughout the Fair. PROJECTS is curated in 2018 by Ying Kwok, an independent curator noted for her inventive curatorial approach which centers on the ‘boundaries of collaboration’ between curators, artists and the wider community. This year, PROJECTS features two important facets of contemporary art practice today: progressive mediums such as technology, augmented reality and kinetic art, alongside insightful historical and cultural narratives. Six cutting-edge installations have been selected, featuring: Penelope Davis (Australia); Jun Ong (Malaysia); Yang Jung Uk (South Korea); Entang Wiharso (Indonesia); Andrea Wolf (Chile) and Karolina Ziulkoski (Brazil); and Zhang Xiaodong (China).
Presented in partnership with 4A Centre for Contemporary Asian Art, PERFORMANCE X 4A returns to Art Central with a series of interactive and live works that address contemporary concerns of excess and dispossession. In an era characterised by polarities, and expansive disparity across societies, the pervasive sense of tension informs the thematic of the programme. Showcasing leading contemporary artists from across the Asia-Pacific region, the works respond directly to global unease through a series of daily on-site performances. Participating artists include: Caroline Garcia (Australia), FJ Kunting (Indonesia), Sam Lo (Singapore) as well as artist duo Sampson Wong & Lam Chi Fai (Hong Kong).
